About chiropractic care

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No. Illinois is a direct access state, so you can make an appointment with us without a referral from your primary care doctor. Some insurance plans still ask for one, which we can help you check.

What happens at a first chiropractic visit?

Dr. Torres takes a history, does an exam and orthopedic testing, and takes X-rays on site if they’re needed. She’ll explain what she found and what care would look like before anything begins.

Does an adjustment hurt?

Most people describe it as relief rather than pain. Dr. Torres uses several techniques, including gentle low-force methods like Activator and Thompson drop table, and she’ll pick the approach that fits you.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on what’s going on and how long it’s been going on. Nerve related problems like sciatica usually take several weeks. Dr. Torres will give you a plan with an expected number of visits rather than leaving it open ended.

Do you treat children?

Yes. Dr. Torres sees children of all ages, including infants for issues like colic. The techniques used for kids are gentle and adapted to their size.

Where are you located and what are your hours?

We’re at 36735 N IL 83, Ste D in Lake Villa, IL 60046, on Route 83. We’re open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 12 and 3 to 6, and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 to 12 and 3 to 6. Closed weekends.

Insurance and payment

Do you take Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Yes. We accept BCBS PPO plans. Coverage varies by plan, so call the office at 847-265-5600 with your card handy and we’ll check your specific benefits before your first visit.

Do you accept UnitedHealthcare or UMR?

Yes, we accept UHC and UMR plans. Bring your insurance card to your first appointment and we’ll verify your chiropractic benefits for you.

Do you accept Medicare?

Yes. Medicare covers chiropractic adjustments when they are medically necessary to correct a subluxation. It does not cover exams, X-rays or therapies, so we’ll go over what is and isn’t covered before we begin care.

What if I don’t have insurance?

We see self-pay patients every day. A first visit is $160 and follow-up visits are $50. We also accept CareCredit if you’d rather spread payments out.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, we accept CareCredit, which lets you pay for care over time. You can apply through CareCredit directly and use it the same day.

Do you see Veterans?

Yes, we do see Veterans. If you are a Veteran, please talk with your VA provider first to ask about a referral for chiropractic care, since the VA handles authorization on their end.
